The Schüco ASE 60 is the entry point into Schüco's residential sliding door range. It's a fully thermally broken aluminium system sitting below the ASE 80, and it covers a large majority of what UK homeowners actually need from a sliding door.
System basics
ASE 60 uses a 60mm frame depth with a polyamide thermal break, running two, three or four panels on parallel tracks. Panel weights are supported up to 250kg per leaf, which for aluminium sliders is generous — it opens up panel sizes well over 3m tall without moving up to a lift-and-slide mechanism.
Sightlines
The interlock sightline where two panels overlap sits at approximately 65mm. Against Schüco's premium ASE 80 Panorama and against slim-line competitor systems, that's mid-range — it isn't the slimmest sightline on the UK market but it's honest and it's stable.
Thermal performance
With standard double glazing, overall U-values on the ASE 60 land at around 1.6 W/m²K. Move to a warm-edge triple glazed unit and figures below 1.3 W/m²K are achievable. For a heated living-room extension in Hertfordshire, that's comfortable Building Regulations compliance and comfortable in the real sense too — the frame doesn't cold-bridge to the internal face.
Where the ASE 60 fits
Our editorial rule of thumb is simple:
- Openings up to around 4.5m wide with panel weights under 200kg: ASE 60 is the right specification.
- Openings 4.5m–6.5m with panels 200–300kg: consider the ASE 80.
- Openings above 6.5m or panels above 300kg: move to a lift-and-slide system.
Configurations
Common panel arrangements:
- 2-track, 2-panel (one fixed, one sliding) — the classic patio door replacement.
- 2-track, 3-panel (one fixed centre + two slide-past) — good for 4m openings.
- 3-track, 3-panel — all three panels slide, stacking on one side. Useful when you want a fully clear opening but bifold isn't the aesthetic.

Installation considerations
Sliders are less sensitive to opening deflection than bifolds because there's no folding hinge to bind — but they are more sensitive to threshold level. The ASE 60 needs its bottom track level within about 1.5mm end-to-end. Get that wrong and heavy panels tend to roll toward the low point, which shows up as panels drifting when released.

Editorial verdict
The ASE 60 is the sensible specification. It clears the performance bar comfortably, it costs less than the ASE 80, and for the majority of Hertfordshire homes it's what a good architect would draw first. Reach for the ASE 80 only when the opening or the panel weights demand it.
